David A. Lifka

David is Cornell’s Vice President for Information Technologies and Chief Information Officer,
and Director of the Cornell Center for Advanced Computing (CAC). He is an HPC industry veteran
with over 25 years experience in management and technology leadership positions at Cornell and
Argonne National Laboratory. Lifka is an active member of the Coalition for Academic Scientific
Computation, recently serving as chair. His areas of expertise include sustainable models for academic
research computing facilities, parallel job scheduling and resource management systems, cloud computing,
and data analysis and management. Lifka is PI of the Aristotle Cloud Federation, an NSF Data Infrastructure
Building Blocks project focused on sharing data analysis resources between institutions. He also serves as
Community Infrastructure lead for XSEDE, the NSF program providing advanced CI systems and services to US
scientists and engineers. Lifka has a Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology
and serves on a number of academic and corporate advisory boards. His scheduling technologies have been
commercially licensed and he received a Computerworld Smithsonian award for innovations in IT.
