FOR RELEASE: September 6, 2011

Cornell University faculty and research staff are invited to “Red Cloud: On-Demand Research Computing,” a September 29 special event scheduled for 12:15 pm - 1:30 pm, room 655, Rhodes Hall.

Cloud computing has the potential to advance research discoveries by making data and computing resources more readily available at an economy of scale. This fall the Cornell University Center for Advanced Computing (CAC) is launching a new cloud computing service for scientists and student researchers called “Red Cloud.”

“Red Cloud,” an Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), will feature Eucalyptus, the open source cloud computing platform.

“Red Cloud with MATLAB,” a Software as a Service (SaaS), will run MATLAB Distributed Computing Server and feature NVIDA GPUs for enhanced performance.

CAC plans to launch Red Cloud services in October 2011. Initial services will be deployed on Dell C6100 servers.

Please register for this event by September 27 by emailing Mary Yetsko. Registration is required. A pizza/salad lunch will be provided.

If you have questions or would like to discuss Red Cloud research computing services prior to or after the event, please contact David Lifka.
