Enhanced Red Cloud exploratory accounts available for free to Cornell students and faculty

ITHACA, N.Y. - The Cornell University Center for Advanced Computing (CAC) announced today that Cornell faculty and students are eligible for Red Cloud computing exploratory accounts providing 165 core hours and 50GB storage for free for four months. One hour of professional consulting assistance is also available at no cost to help Cornellians build their cloud image and install software.
Red Cloud is an Amazon Web Services (AWS)-compatible Infrastructure as a Service that runs HPE Helion Eucalyptus open source hybrid cloud software. Users have root access to virtual servers and virtual disks.
Red Cloud is architected specifically for research. For example, Cornell Assistant Professor Ludmilla Aristilde, Dept. of Biological and Environmental Engineering, recently used Red Cloud to analyze carbon-cycling enzyme simulations. Other use cases include using cloud computing for educational labs.
Red Cloud Documentation provides details how to log in, use the HPE Helion Eucalyptus User Console, access Red Cloud via Linux euca2ool CLI command-line tools, work with Elastic Block Storage volumes, and create Windows instances.
